Sunday Update


Disney's The Chronicles of Narnia held onto the top spot at the box office on Saturday with an estimated $7.7M while Universal's King Kong placed second with an estimated $7M on the final day of 2005. Both films dropped about 20% from Friday. With a Friday-Saturday take of $17.2M, Narnia might finish the four-day holiday frame with $37-40M. Kong has captured $15.6M over the same days and could be heading for $33-36M over the long weekend.

Competing comedies Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and Fun With Dick and Jane both grossed an estimated $4.4M on Saturday. The Steve Martin sequel enjoyed a smaller drop from Friday faling 19% compared to the 28% decline for the Jim Carrey vehicle. Each film should find its way to $21-24M over four days and duke it out for the number three position.

Official four-day studio estimates will be released on Monday.
