But the party started in May with the arival of Austin Powers which took in a shagadelic $53.8M. The good times rolled with the late summer titles Spawn ($55M) and Money Talks ($41.1M). In the fall, Boogie Nights garnered critical praise and just medium box office with $26M. In November, New Line caught the industry offguard with the $16.8M debut of Mortal Kombat : Annihilation which then immediately sputtered and should end with about $36M. Other films from New Line Cinema in 1997 were Trial and Error ($13.6M), Love Jones ($12.5M), Most Wanted ($6.3M), Dangerous Ground ($5.1M), One Night Stand ($2.6M), and Love! Valour! Compassion! ($2.9M).
