The Road Ahead for Avatar

The chart below tracks the possible future grosses for James Cameron's Avatar which collected an estimated $48.5M in its fourth weekend raising the total to $429M after 24 days. Each full week (Friday to Thursday) experiences a moderate 35% decline except for the holiday weeks that include Martin Luther King Day and Presidents' Day. Those are calculated with 30% drops. On week 13 of Avatar's release, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland starring Johnny Depp opens and will take over the majority of 3D screens so a 45% fall is calculated for that period. This chart does not factor in any boost Avatar may see at the box office due to Golden Globe or Academy Award wins or nominations.
