The Dark Knight Update

Warner Bros. hauled in another $18.4M on Wednesday with its summer smash The Dark Knight raising the six-day tally to a stunning $222.2M. The daily figure was off 11% from Tuesday and allowed the newest Batman film to jump up to number three on the list of 2008 blockbusters after Iron Man and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull which have both taken in over $312M a piece.

Knight is now set to finish its opening week with a record $238M over seven days. That beats out the previous best of $196M by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest by a healthy 21%.

The Joker and pals have a virtual lock on shattering the $250M mark on Friday and the $300M mark on Sunday after only eight and ten days, respectively, setting even more records. Chest currently holds both industry benchmarks having needed 10 and 16 days, respectively.

If The Dark Knight can continue to hold up well into its sophomore weekend, it may even enter the list of the top 25 blockbusters of all-time by Sunday.

Be sure to check back on Friday for continued coverage of The Dark Knight's record-shattering opening week.
